Let's be honest. Salmon fishing has hardly been a fruitful past time for many dedicated salmon anglers these past few years has it? Lack of fish, long spells of low water, poor Spring runs, average Grilse runs and non-existent back end runs have not given much to cheer about and as a result, it has been a long time since I posted anything on this Blog! Another factor in this was when Covid struck and access to fishing was limited. Once I got out the habit of writing about my salmon fishing exploits, it was soon far from my thoughts and in the end I just stopped altogether.
However...despite the lack of salmon running our rivers these days, I felt it was a good time to start the Blog again and the main reason for this was due solely down to a conversation I had on the river bank recently with two gentlemen who I had only met that day. To cut a long story short, they were highly complimentary about the content and the information this site provided and the inspiration it gave them to try out some of the beats featured over the years on here. Some of which are now regular haunts of theirs. This gave me a few ideas and inspiration to log in once again and continue documenting my salmon fishing journey on line for those who are interested in following my passion.
The salmon fishing has been anything but good on my local rivers this year, and in all honestly, I have fished very little since early April following my annual trip to Speyside ended in a complete blank for all 6 rods over 3 days. In the past week or so, a couple of welcome rises in water have had me clearing the dust off my gear and heading out for a cast again. I have been fortunate enough to land a couple of fish for my limited efforts though and this has re-ignited the obsession with salmon and fishing for them!
Stay tuned for more posts as the season progresses and I hope anyone reading enjoys the content.
Tight lines!
